Persimmons - Processing them for Freezing
I called Memaw Beck last night and let her know that the persimmon tree has tons of persimmons this year.She came over today and we picked up persimmons. I hadn't mowed the grass this week and it was difficult picking them up. I already picked up 2 grocery bags full beforet today. Memaw took them with her. 9 pints of persimmon pulp (after using a food mill to remove the seed and skin). It takes 2 cups of of pulp to make a persimmon pudding. So - we've got a good start.
I went outide this morning and mowed the area of the persimmon trees,and then raked up non 'smushed' persimmonsand threw them away. and readied the area for the rest of the month- picking them up each day. This will keep the bees to a minimum. I'm allergic to bees....so win/win. I push mowed the yard (Trim). Thankfully, it was overcast and breezy. I managed to get inside before the serious rainfall.
Anyway,I left the yard at lunchtime feeling like I was 100 years old. I was sweaty, hot, and exhausted. I took a quick shower and then Chaos and I ended up napping in the double recliner.
Now, my ear is once again roaring. OMG - I think I need to have a tube put in my right ear. UGH!
So- I think I will try to do a bit of cleaning and then head to bed. Looking forward to resting better tonight.

Hump Day 09/0915, Baby coming to visit :)
Another day of work, but it is a short week!!
worked at the bank and was happy that one of my deliverables was met today. We finally got the reports automated and scheduled, and they automatically ran as of 00:00:01 today.
Applications are implementing fast and furious. Two are scheduled this weekend. Here's hoping I get the majority of the gating completed tomorrow.
I arrived home and my sweet Grandbaby was home. Oh Joy!! I was able to feed her and keep her entertained until she left with her mom to go stay with her boyfriends parents overnight. Megan has to work tomorrow night and she wanted to help me - so I wouldn't be up to all hours of the night taking care of the baby.
It looks like storms are approaching to the west and may rain all day tomorrow. I'll never get the grass mowed and I'm more than ready to be finished with lawn care for this year.
I just put some color in my hair (was tired of the gray) and as soon as it's dry - it's off to sleepy time for me. Too many late nights. I have a load of clothes to finish and then it will soon be Thursday work.

Rick Springfield, Loverboy and The Romantics @ Red Hat Ampitheatre Raleigh NC 9/4/15
Such a wonderful weekend. One of my besties Angie B. and met in Raleigh to see Rick Springfield, Loveboy and The Romantics in concert. Such a blast from the past. Both Angie and I went to the same concert back in 1982 (5/22/1982) at Greensboro, NC.
Rick's concert in 1982 (along with opening act Tom Chapin) was the first 'on my own as an adult' concert that I ever planned, paid for and went to. I took my sister Paula with me. I was 22 and she was 17. It's funny to think that for all I know, Angie could have been stting beside me in 1982 as she was in 2015. http://www.rickspringfield.us/library/concert1980.html
The Romantics played first and they were okay. I remembered they only had a few real hits in the 1980s. 'When you're talking in your sleep' was one of my favorites. I wanted to learn to play (now) the Bass guitar because I love the Bass on that song. On the way to Raleigh, I had memories flood across me of Lee Brickhouse Jr and myself dancing to that song so many times. I had to laugh to think that his dance style and mannerisms were as clear in my memory as if we had danced last week. But that is another story.
The Drummer for The Romantics made that part of the concert. He had a very lively personality. Funny how almost all of those guys had dark black hair. Like you would honestly have dark black hair in your 50s/60s.

By the time they finished their set and Loverboy hit the stage, it was now dark. Loverboy had lots of equipment on the stage and their keyboardist hasn't lost a note in 30 plus years. Mike Reno came out on stage with the signature head band. He had gained afew pounds but was the same Mike Reno - the vocals were awesome. A big change in todays concerts verses the 1980s. Most smart phones have video. I recorded bits of songs. Unfortunately I sang along with them, so those videos will not make it to Facebook or social media.
The only disappointment was the 'break' they took (They only performed for an hour or so) with just the drums and bass guitar... and I was ready for some more music. Loverboy performed:

From a very young Cher announcing a 'new' artist on her show, to news articles, MTV discussions, TV Shows, to more recent events and TV Shows. Rick is beautiful inside and out.
I found out he had a birthday a few days before. This gorgeous man is 66 years old. 66? We all sang Happy Birthday to him. :) Rick was his usual gorgeous yet so down to earth rocker. He reminded me ofthat first concert in 1982 when I fell in love with him (just like every other woman there). LOL!

It was an awesome concert. During the Human touch song, Rick went out into the crowd. At one point, he was standing about 6 rows in front of us, and stared (it seemed) right at us. He then walked across the chairs to our left and went up the aisle till he was about 8 rows behind us. Then he came right beside us. There were people HANGING on him. I wouldn't do that for any reason. Too intrusive. However the two people to our right, went out in the aisle, so we followed. Angie was able to reach out and touch Rick on the back and i caught it on video. I didn't realize it as I stopped viewing and just looked to see Rick- no more than 2 feet away. We giggled and screamed like teenage girls when we realized it was on film. I love Angie! She is awesome! :)
It didn't take us long to get out of the event when it was over. We walked back to the parking lot where Angie and I managed to park in the same lot - and I parked behind her on the opposite side of the small parking lot. How crazy was that? Just another coincidence with my sister from another mister.
I'm looking forward to more Rick Springfield concerts to come1 :)

2013 Sep 1 - Farmhouse Restoration Progress
Owwwwww, ouch, ouchie. I need a BC Powder. Renovating a farmhouse ain't for sissies. Lol. So today, we painted the living room trim work. I caulked the windows. If you think there aren't any cracks or gaps, or holes in a house built in 1879..... well you're wrong. LOL! So - I was ainting the downstairs closet in the bedroom and it got so dark (no light in there .... it's TINY).... and turned on the light in the downstairs bedroom. Choss got all spooked with the storm, and sat at my feet. He ended up wearing some white paint. Living room is 'Cocnut Milk" (off white) with Lenin white ceiling and semi gloss white trim. Looks GORGEOUS! :) After this room is finished, downstairs bedroom....Got to decide a color.
The downstairs hallway (between the living room and bedroom) is the right size for my wood and glass doll cabinet and it has a light in it. Getting excited when we plan what furniture is going where. going to have my piano back in the living room.... one corner with guitar, banjo, drum, several small instuments like triangle, maracas, etc. too bad I can only play the RADIO. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Joking. I can play the piano and guitar with some proficiency. :)

2012 Jun 12 - Crazy Busy too much to do weekend
So last weekend, I decided to see how much this old body could take. I found out not as much as it could years ago!
Saturday was my day to stay at home and work. Megan was still at the beach so I kept the puppy company (took him everywhere I went) and worked...and I mean worked all weekend. I awoke at 7:00 and was up and moving by 7:15. I made coffee (YAY) and had a bite of breakfast. As soon as I could, I went outside and started cutting down limbs from trees that were hanging down way too low. They were causing me issues when I used the riding lawn mower. I used one of these pole blades that will let you either saw the limb or if it's small, place the limb in the crook of it and pull a rope which then cuts the limb. I went to the front yard and trimmed the lowest limbs of the purple Japanese Maple that I love so much. Then, I cut down a Mimosa tree that volunteered beside the only Pine tree in the front yard. After that, I went to the Propane tank and took down some type of tree that another Mimosa tree was going to kill eventually. The Mimosa would provide better shade eventually and it's already 8 feet tall. Then it was time for the backyard.
The backyard had been ignored for years. I'd never cut back the Red Tips when they were bushes...and they turned into trees. My neighbor on the other side of the fence keeps them cut back on her side (and that's okay by me), but when we first moved here in 1993, there was zippo shade in the back yard. I knew I was going to have a toddler in two years wanting to play outside and we needed shade. I went to work on the red tip TREES in the back yard. The area below is a natural area and when I finished, I could see all the way through to my neighbors backyard. No privacy issue as she has two lots and I can see the garage from my yard. I found 2 tires (seem to be good...guess I'll sell them) and tractor implements (and the tractor now belongs to my brother in law, but I have the crap sitting around here). I just kept gathering the limbs in the yard and then went into the neighbors yard and started cutting tree limbs and vines on two small trees that I later realized were basically dying from all the vines. This wore me out completely. So - I pulled the vines and trimmed the limbs, then I threw them over the fence to vacant land, and then through the gate of the fence into my property, then through the gate to the front yard and deposited them to the curb. By the time I finished all of this it was late and the sun was going down.
I put away my tools and went inside and took my shower and rested/slept the rest of the night.
Sunday, I got up early and went to the farmhouse. after picking up produce from the garden...Oh yes, we have a garden...another thing to work me into a stupor (but I love canning veggies). Mom,Dad and I worked on drywall putty (3rd coat) for Aunt Sacks Bedroom. After working on that all day, my shoulders decided they would rather live with someone else. Keep in mind, all of this work is being done on a broken ankle (4 weeks in) and I'm wearing my air cast for extra support. So - Home, dinner, rest, washed and dried clothes and readied myself for another work week.
I called the City to come get the debris on Wednesday, so Tuesday I couldn't resist going out and getting even more done on the yard. I went back to the area where the vines were killing the trees (behind my overgrown herb garden - really....my Rosemary bush is so big I can't get my arms around it). I cut the trees back drastically and had to leave the old woody vines but I'm coming back for ya Saturday. The Water Oak was bent over from the weight of the vines. I hope it will recover. Again, in the neighbors yard, throwing limbs and vines over the fence, through my fence to back yard, through the gate to front yard and to the curb.
Then, I started on the side yard. I trimmed trees and got as much of the vines as I could (saving my Clematis vine), took all that to the curb. There is at least 12 feet wide and 4 feet tall tree limbs and vines. Megan is home and while she was outside talking to me, Chaos rolled around on a dead frog, so Chaos got a bath. After I finished, I had 4 tomato plants and 3 pepper plants that I hadn't planted. I planted them all in my strawberry planter. Will be interesting to see if they live.....
Next Saturday if the weather is pretty, I will cut down the trees in the L shaped flower bed along the front and side of the house. I also have to dig up a lot of the yellow iris. They won't bloom because they are too thick. I will take them to the farmhouse and plant them. I had I also have two areas of Hosta that will have to be cut down and dug up. Oh joy! Then trim the Azaleas and hopefully ALL I'll have will be Azaleas left. Hmmm, then cut down the rest of the bushes near the propane tank....and use Roundup around the fence and do some string trimming.
And the best news of all folks... I'm on vacation starting Friday June 22nd at 5pm and I will be returning to work on July 5th at 8:30 AM. Yes - 12 days including weekends...and believe it or not...I started thinking about the Thursday and Friday after 4th of July (5th and 6th) thinking that 16 days beats 12. Now - lets not get greedy.
Here's the plan for staycation: 1) Drywall at farmhouse 2) painting at farmhouse 3) gardening at farmhouse 4) Starting to clear out things at my current house 5) setting up sales locations on Facebook and Amazon to sell anything not carrying with me. 6) Locating new cabinets for the farmhouse (know of any pretty ones that are inexpensive?) 7) Selling junk 8) Getting current home ready to put on market/sell 9) Lots of other stuff..... And before I got back to work...spending a few days at my sisters pool. Thanks Paula!! :) I'm tired. Bedtime.. Nite!
